We believe that learning happens in the most unexpected ways. Recently, one of our young learners, Shalmali, returned from a trip with a collection of beautiful seashells. Rather than just admiring them, she saw potential in these natural treasures and decided to create something unique—a tortoise made entirely from the shells she had gathered.

The Journey of Creation

A reflection of her experiences
A reflection of her experiences

Inspired by her experience at the beach, Shalmali carefully selected shells of different shapes and sizes. With gentle precision, she arranged them to form the body, limbs, and shell of a tortoise. The process was not just about assembling pieces; it was an exploration of textures, forms, and storytelling.

Through this activity, she engaged deeply in observation and experimentation—two fundamental aspects of learning at Know School. She explored balance, symmetry, and structure, discovering how different shells could fit together to create a cohesive form.

More Than Just an Artwork

Beyond its aesthetic value, Shalmali’s creation was an expression of curiosity and creativity. It was a reflection of her experiences, an attempt to bring a piece of her journey back into her learning space. This process of turning memories into tangible expressions is something we celebrate at Know School—where learning is fluid, self-driven, and full of discovery.

Her tortoise now sits proudly in our learning space, reminding us that learning is not confined to books or classrooms. It happens in every moment of wonder, in every object we touch, and in every idea we dare to bring to life.

Encouraging More Explorations

Shalmali’s project has inspired other children to look at ordinary materials differently, sparking new ideas for creative exploration. At Know School, we encourage such moments—where a simple collection of shells turns into an opportunity for learning, storytelling, and hands-on engagement.

What will the children create next? We look forward to more stories, more experiments, and more discoveries!
