Learning takes on a new flavor when experienced firsthand. Recently, Sanchita took on an exciting challenge—cooking her own meal from scratch. But instead of using a stove, she built her own fireplace using bricks, gathered firewood, and prepared eggs over an open flame.
Building the Fireplace

Sanchita began by carefully arranging bricks to create a sturdy structure for the fire. She learned how to balance the bricks, ensuring that the setup allowed enough airflow to keep the fire burning steadily. Gathering dry twigs and leaves, she patiently built the fire, observing how different materials ignite and burn. This hands-on process gave her a deeper understanding of how fire behaves and how to control its intensity for cooking.
The Cooking Experience
Once the fire was ready, Sanchita cracked eggs onto a earthern pan placed over the glowing embers. She watched closely as the heat transformed the eggs, noting how different levels of flame affected the cooking process. With patience and curiosity, she learned when to turn the eggs, how to adjust the fire, and how simple ingredients can create a nourishing meal.
More Than Just Cooking
Sanchita’s experience went beyond just making food. She engaged in problem-solving, experimentation, and self-sufficiency. By building her own fireplace and cooking outdoors, she connected with the fundamental process of making fire and using it for sustenance—something humans have been doing for centuries.
Her efforts inspired other children at Know School to think about food preparation in new ways. It was a reminder that cooking is not just a chore; it is an art, a science, and a life skill that connects us to the world around us.
Looking Ahead
With curiosity as the driving force, we wonder what the next exploration will be. Whether it’s creating with natural materials, cooking in unconventional ways, or experimenting with new ideas, Know School remains a space where children can turn everyday experiences into meaningful learning adventures.
